2025 Anibal Nazoa Awards: teleSUR Recognized for 20 Years of Latin American Journalism

The Necessary Journalism Movement (MPN) has announced the verdict for the 16th edition of the Anibal Nazoa Award, a recognition that honors journalistic rigor and a commitment to communication in service of the people.

This year, the jury reviewed nominations and monitored content across major multimedia platforms. The results highlight professionals and projects that have contributed to strengthening journalism with a Latin Americanist perspective.
In the Television category, the sole award was given to teleSUR in recognition of its 20-year trajectory. The jury praised its role as a strategic communication project created during the government of Commander Hugo Chavez.
The multi-state media platform has maintained programming focused on information sovereignty and regional integration, establishing itself as a reference point for journalism committed to Latin America’s social processes. The Anibal Nazoa Award underscores teleSUR’s contribution to building an alternative media narrative.
Journalist Madeleine Garcia was named ‘Reporter of the Year’ for her on-the-ground reporting and ability to capture testimonies with social impact. The award for critical analysis of continental reality went to the team behind ‘The Dot on the I’ (El Punto en la I), directed by Ricardo Romero and comprised of Gabriel Justo, Luisanny Gomez, Emily Caro, Andrea Guillot, Michell Ramirez, David Guerra, and Diomar Tamayo.
In the Digital-Podcast category, the program ‘News from the Neighborhood,’ a project produced by teleSUR workers, was recognized for showing how community journalism amplifies traditionally marginalized voices. The show is hosted by Marcela Heredia and produced by Patricia Villegas, Rolando Segura, Emily Caro, Gustavo Flores, and Jose Garcia.
teleSUR celebrated these recognitions and reaffirmed its commitment to journalism in service of social justice. The 2025 Anibal Nazoa Award further establishes its role in promoting communication that prioritizes the interests of the people over media monopolies.
